There has been growing recognition among community groups, regulators, and other organisations that previously developed or brownfield sites have enormous potential for greening city environments, through the implementation of parks, playgrounds, and other open spaces. Adding green space to sites with lower commercial and residential opportunities such as landbanks can add value to a construction development.
CIRIA’s new proposal 2630 Open green space for brownfield sites
will provide comprehensive guidance about the benefits of turning brownfield
into green spaces, and offers guidance for clients and their professional
advisors, and local authorities to understand:
• the wildlife value, biodiversity, urban and landscape design, cultural
heritage issues etc
• what to consider when the brownfield site is to be redeveloped for
soft end use
• future management of green space generated from brownfield sites
• how to deal with the financial and legal issues for green space projects
• how to manage ecological risk and manage liabilities etc.
